Chronos and Kairos: A Meditation on Sacred Time

This service invites us to reflect on how we might cultivate awareness of the flows of ordinary time and sacred time, so that when we experience sacred moments in time we may be more open to the human experiences of transcending mystery and wonder that they bring. Minister:  Rev. Esther Wallace Worship Associate:  Bob Campbell

May’s Service Theme:

Awakening Curiosity

As a spiritual practice, we awaken curiosity to counter judgment, foster connection, and encourage wonder. This invites us to move beyond assumptions, ask deeper questions about life and faith, and use curiosity to bridge divides.  We can approach everyday things with interest, ask more questions and cultivate motivation to learn something new.  Curiosity can decrease any sense of boredom, increase creative engagement and provide a stronger sense of meaning in life.

Shared Plate Recipient for the Month of May:

Sonrise Kitchen

For the past 16 years, SonRise Kitchen has been serving breakfast to community members in Watsonville who are experiencing homelessness or financial hardship. Five days a week, they offer a meal along with a welcoming space where people are treated with dignity. Their work is sustained almost entirely through community support. Volunteers give their time to cook and serve, and donations help provide food and basic supplies. This collective effort allows them to continue showing up, day after day, for those who rely on them.

SonRise Kitchen operates at the Westview Presbyterian Church in Watsonville and is also involved in supporting a tiny home community behind the church. Their latest project is a community garden that will provide fresh food and a shared space for connection and healing.
